Some of Gavin's most successful saltwater
flies are now available on this website as packs. All
flies are tied by the author to his own exacting standards of quality
and workmanship
These flies are very effective for attracting and
catching bass and don’t be surprised if an angry pollack or
saithe attack it as it riffles and splutters across the surface
“The author is also a
regular at the British Fly Fair where he gives tying demonstrations and
discusses the reasoning behind the design of the flies that he ties.
GLH
Marauder
Based upon the surf candy it
is tied using fun fur or polar fibre in various colour
combinations including all black for night fly fishing. A
pattern that has proved effective on bass, saithe, pollack,
mackerel, garfish, cod and even the occasional wrasse.
All of his inspiration
comes from his understanding of the environment and the creatures that
live there, knowledge that has been built up over many years of
observation and amateur study.

Leg Crab
Once again this is a good all round pattern effective for many species
that regularly prey upon small crabs.
Many
of the patterns may look a little drab when compared to many of the
natural prey items they imitate but when the prey is in the water their
colours become subdued.
Bend
Back Sand Eel
Having bend back patterns in your armoury means that you can fish deep
over rough ground or in kelp beds with less risk of being fouled
up and snagged because it rides upside down and the wing acts as
a weed guard.
A
small amount of flash is added as an attractor and the large eyes of
bait fish in particular are well worth adding to the flies providing
focus for the fish when they hit into them.”

Dress EZ Squid
The natural is common around
our coast and should be fished with a retrieve of short, sharp
bursts that best imitates the way it swims naturally
