Some of Gavin's most successful saltwater
flies are now available on this website as packs. All
flies are tied by the author to his own exacting standards of quality
and workmanship
The rocky shoreline has many
points of land with many smaller false points that disrupt the flow of the currents forming rips and eddies over offshore
reefs. They can also have very deep water tight against the shoreline and good fish may be caught
right under your feet.
Beaches have lots of hidden structure including
troughs, sloughs (pronounced slews), cuts, bars, cusps, bowls and
shelves.
The stance adopted by saltwater fly anglers is
much more open allowing for a greater range of upper body movement and
brings larger muscle groups into play. Allowing the arm to move further
back through the drift helps us to hold more line in the air and sets us
up in the right position to drive the cast forward.
Rips are formed when the current forces its way
over or between structure with the strongest rips forming where there is
a great difference between two depths or widths.
The Non-SlipLoop Knot
Harbours, wave breaks, piers and jetties all have
fish holding potential and all of these man made structures also have
unique influences upon water depth and current.
